Conventional Braces

At Riverbend Family Dentistry Jupiter, we offer both conventional orthodontic care (metal braces) and Invisalign. A straight smile not only looks good but enhances your entire oral health. Straight teeth allow for better cleansing leading to a decrease in the potential for cavities and gum disease. Also, a properly aligned bite will maintain jaw joint health and decrease tooth wear due to grinding and clenching.
Cases that work best for conventional braces include:
- Crossbite: One or more of your top row teeth aren’t aligning properly with your bottom row of teeth.
- Open bite: The top and bottom rows of your front teeth don’t align as they should.
- Overbite: Your top front row of teeth extend beyond your bottom row of front teeth.
- Overjet: Your upper front row of teeth protrude outward.
- Underbite: Your top row of teeth sit behind your bottom row of teeth rather than in front of them.
The Purpose Of Conventional Braces
Traditional braces are popular orthodontic treatment options available for patients of all ages. These teeth straightening systems are made using high-grade metal to move teeth comfortably and safely. Braces comprise archwires and brackets, which apply consistent pressure to reposition teeth. Our orthodontist uses modern technology to design your braces and help you achieve a straight smile. If misaligned teeth cause headaches, jaw pain, or temporomandibular joint disorders, getting conventional braces can rectify these problems.
Top Benefits Of Braces
- Cleaning and maintaining straight teeth are easier than crooked ones. You can reduce the risks of periodontal disease and cavities by wearing braces for an aligned smile.
- Patients who switch to traditional orthodontic appliances can chew their food better and have improved digestion.
- Braces can correct this situation if misaligned jaws prevent you from speaking certain words or phrases clearly.
- Crooked, gapped, or crowded teeth can make you conscious about your smile. Traditional braces can turn your embarrassment into enhanced facial appearance and self-esteem.
How To Care For Braces And Maintain Your Smile?
Orthodontic braces can provide optimal straightening results when you keep them well-maintained. Snacks, bacteria, plaque, or debris can stick to these braces, which may cause tooth decay or damage to these appliances. There are several ways to care for your orthodontic device, which include the following.
After every meal, brush your teeth properly and the areas in and around the braces. Flossing is equally essential for removing trapped food or objects from teeth gaps. Rinse your mouth with a mouthwash recommended by our orthodontist to maintain dental hygiene, ultimately keeping your braces clean.
Water flossers are good for removing stubborn debris, plaque, or food that regular brushing or flossing may not eliminate. Book your orthodontic consultation at Riverbend Family Dentistry Jupiter to know which product is best for this purpose.
Many patients manage to keep their braces clean by avoiding sticky, sugary, and hard foods. Routine checkups from our Jupiter dentists also elevate your teeth straightening experience with conventional braces.

Most patients are a candidate for metal braces. We offer a free orthodontic consultation to discuss if this is the best treatment option for you.
What to Expect during an Orthodontic Care Visit?
At your consultation, we will start by taking an iTero® 3D digital scan and photos. After reviewing your scan and photos, your dentist will discuss the ideal orthodontic option for proper tooth movement, as well as the length of treatment and estimated costs.
If you would like to move forward with the proposed treatment then your delivery appointment will be scheduled to place your braces. How Do Braces Work to Straighten Teeth?
Brackets are administered to the teeth and wire is fixated to the brackets to apply the proper pressures. Teeth respond to that pressure by moving in the desired direction. Routine (usually monthly) adjustments ensure that the teeth are tracking in the right direction and that the resulting appearance and function match the patient’s desires and the dentist’s plans.
Do I Have to be a Certain Age to Have Braces?
No! People can decide to get straight teeth by using conventional braces at any time in their lives! There is nothing wrong with wanting the functionality, health, and appealing smile that straighter teeth provide at any age.

This patient was not happy with her asymmetric and “gummy” smile. Using traditional metal braces, we were able to intrude (push in) the teeth and gums on the right side creating a beautiful smile. Patient completed orthodontic treatment within 1 year.
